Sony has introduced of a new Digital Paper tablet, designed to allow users to read, annotate, and share documents electronically.
The device is 7mm thick and has a 13.3-inch touch-screen display, which enables users to operate the menu or turn pages, and a stylus to help professionals write, highlight and erase text directly on the pan.
Digital Paper is claimed to increase productivity and streamline collaboration in paper-intensive environments including legal, higher education, governmental agencies and corporate board rooms.
The $1,100 device, which is expected to be released this May, also includes built-in Wi-Fi functionality that allows users to share documents over a wireless network and upload them to a server.
Sony Electronics Digital Paper Solutions director Bob Nell said the device is a replacement for the vast amounts of paper that continue to clutter many offices and institutions.
"The ‘notepad’ feature will have universal appeal, and notes can be shared with clients, colleagues, and co-workers," Nell added.
"Digital Paper offers a simple, intuitive experience and gives professionals portability and flexibility coupled with the ability to wirelessly access document management solutions and other content repositories."
Claimed to feature the world’s thinnest and lightest body, other features include E Ink Mobius technology from E Ink, a lithium-ion battery, storage capacity for about 2,800 PDF files with 4GB of internal memory with an option for micro SD card slot.
