Sonus’ direct operations in Tokyo, which include sales, marketing and support functions, will complement the company’s existing alliances with leading Japanese distribution and development partners. Sonus has forged relationships with Nissho Electronics Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation, under which they sell and support the full range of Sonus packet voice solutions to the Japanese carrier market. A year ago, Sonus formed a partnership with Nissho Electronics Corporation and NTT COMWARE Corporation to jointly develop a localized version of the Sonus product family, including the GSX9000(TM) Open Services Switch, the PSX6000(TM) SoftSwitch and the SGX2000(TM) SS7 Signaling Gateway, incorporating key features and functionality for the Japanese market.
By increasing our presence in Japan, we will be better able to support our current customers in the region, including Fusion Communications and Global Crossing, as they deploy next-generation voice networks, said Gary Rogers, vice president, worldwide sales, Sonus Networks. The additional resources we’re putting into place enhance our position as we pursue opportunities with both established and new next-generation carriers in Japan.
