Apple Computer Inc is having to recall some of its Macintosh PowerBook 100 notebook computers for a circuit board modification: Apple says it is aware of a malfunction in three of the close to 60,000 PowerBook 100 units that could be affected by the potential problem, an electrical short that results in the melting of a small hole in the bottom of the outer case; the short does not affect performance of the computer; it has set up a safety helpline in the US and says subsidiaries in Europe and the Pacific region will be communicating with their customers on how to return their machines for modification.
