Two more contestants have joined the increasingly crowded race to become the Amazon.com of pharmaceuticals. Seattle-based Soma Corp has launched Soma.com to sell prescription medications, over-the- counter drugs, vitamins, health care products, beauty aids and alternative remedies. The pharmacy can verify prescriptions with patients’ health care providers and claims it can deliver at prices below those of chain drugstores. By providing written instructions on how to take medication correctly and email reminders to refill repeat prescriptions, Soma.com aims to correct the problems associated with patient non-compliance. Meanwhile the board of directors of ADAM Software Inc has voted to change its name to ADAM Internet Health Inc. The company is building what it calls a consumer health destination at Adam.com. Right now, health is the net’s hottest property. Earlier this week PlanetRx hired a new chief technology officer from Charles Schwab and Co (CI No 3,574).
