SOLVING NEW YORKS PROBLEMS

Relentless in his quest to find the solution to the intractable problems of New York City, Mayor David Dinkins is off to South Africa next month, but if he doesn’t find the answer in Soweto or Johannesburg, he hopes that his next trip will turn up the answer: according to the New York Daily News, he will be boarding a flight to Munich on December 15 to continue the quest for the Holy Grail at a memorial commemorating the White Rose, a small group of German students beheaded in 1943 after denouncing the Nazis, or at Dachau – there’s no need to visit the site of the concentration camp, the whole area around it simply reeks of evil – or even in Berlin, also on his itinerary – and we’re pleased to learn that despite its manifest woes, Compaq Computer Corp still feels able to foot the bill for his trip, which is ostensibly to see the Grand Slam Cup tennis tournament sponsored by Compaq; Mayor Dinkins may however feel a little nervous about the whole escapade now that Compaq has decided the answer to all its problems is to fire the chief executive…
