The solution to the puzzle about the identity of those IBM 3380 AFF and B4F disk drives (CI Nos 618, 619, 620) comes not from IBM but from Dan Roberts, formerly of Memorex, now Unisys: he says that they are indeed 3380s with a few fixed head tracks for extra fast access – and that they were part of the original 3380 announcement back in 1980 – but he reckons that IBM has never actually shipped any of them.
