Software Professionals Inc, the San Mateo, California-based systems management company which until recently was focused exclusively on the proprietary Tandem Computers Inc Guardian marketplace has decided that the business isn’t bringing home the bacon any longer and is shedding products and people in that space. Nine of the company’s 66 employees will lose their jobs, including VP sales and services Ken Voss. The company wasn’t able to tell Computergram which products it will dispose of, how, or what will happen to the 450-odd customers using its Tandem-based software. It also couldn’t say whether what it described as disapointing sales in the Tandem market could be attributed to Tandem’s increased focus on open systems. The company will henceforth focus primarily on its Unix-based Enlighten systems management product and will take a one-time charge of $1m to $1.2m against its fourth quarter results due in a couple of weeks which are expected to show a pre-tax loss of $1.8m to $2.0m on revenues of $6.6m.
