Software Products International Inc, the San Diego company with a relational database designed specifically for Microsoft Corp’s Windows environment will jump the product up to release 1.5 this quarter, with free upgrades until June 30. WindowBase 1.5 is a stand-alone Windows relational database with tools for data management, analysis and presentation. WindowBase 1.5 is claimed to offer a dramatic overall increase in the performance of the product, particularly in accessing data and performing queries on databases. WindowBase 1.5 also features improvements to the graphical user interface, including a DataViewer function for fast look-up of any data. Additional icons have been added to make more activities available at the press of a button; installation has been improved to make it more intuitive. Gateways to dBase III and Btrieve file formats are available with WindowBase 1.5, providing transparent access to data in those file formats. The gateways provide read and write capabilities, including memo fields, and the ability to add, delete and manipulate indexes; dBase III and Btrieve tables can also be created within WindowBase. WindowBase 1.5 also allows for the import and export of DIF and ASCII file formats. For development, users can input, view and update data via forms, reports or tables. WindowBase 1.5 will be out by the end of March at $500. It needs an 80286 with 4Mb of memory.
