O2 Technology Inc is placing its Object Database Management Group-compliant O2 object engine layer over Software AG’s Adabas D relational storage manager to create an object-relational system that Software AG will market. The work is being done as one part of the Esprit projects in conjunction with Cap Sesa Telecom SA (which is using the technology for a 49Gb phone directory) and Mannesmann AG as well as Software AG. A new Adabase D application programming interface will enable O2 objects to be stored in the Software AG database. The project is similar to the work O2 is doing with Unidata Inc to integrate the O2 engine with Unidata’s nested relational database form (CI No 2,856). O2 expects to get improved transaction processing and high availability support from the project, and it will also be able to support native SQL queries.
