Zend Technologies, the PHP company, and RightScale, a cloud computing management company, have extended the support of RightScale Cloud Management Platform for Zend Server and Zend Server Community Edition (CE) and Zend’s PHP web application server offerings.

According to Zend, system administrators can deploy Zend Server or Zend Server CE applications on a cloud or across multiple clouds and manage them through RightScale’s automated platform. It also helps RightScale users to benefit from the production environment delivered by Zend Server or Zend Server CE.

Thorsten von Eicken, CTO and founder of RightScale, said: “An increasing number of PHP web applications on the cloud are critical to an organisation’s core business and cannot experience significant downtime or a lapse in security. We are pleased that RightScale users now have the option to use Zend Server to run their business-critical web applications with confidence.”

Zend has developed a RightScript for Zend Server and Server CE, enabling them to be integrated into a RightScale cloud deployment as part of a RightScale ServerTemplate, which are pre-built templates for common server configurations. RightScale users can install either the full-featured and supported commercial edition of Zend Server or Server CE, running on CentOS Linux and either PHP 5.2 or 5.3, the companies said.

Reportedly, Zend Server is a web application server designed for running and managing business-critical PHP applications in production. It includes a pre-integrated, tested PHP application stack; monitoring and problem diagnostics to ensure application reliability; acceleration and caching capabilities to maximise performance; up to 24/7 access to Zend’s technical support, as well as online updates, hot fixes and security patches.

Zeev Suraski, CTO of Zend, said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for Zend Server users to get the benefits of cloud computing to maximise the agility and performance of their PHP web sites. RightScale is the de facto leader in cloud computing management, providing a proven platform that provides not only a fast cloud on-ramp, but also proven, cloud-ready solutions that can support even complex, multi-cloud deployments.”
