Zapp selects Oracle to develop mobile payment platform

The companies will offer real-time mobile payment services to users in the domestic market.

By CBR Staff Writer

UK based mobile commerce company Zapp has selected Oracle to help it develop its m-commerce technology platform.

The move is part of company’s plan to offer real-time mobile payment services to its users in the domestic market next year by integrating their bank accounts and phone numbers, without requiring the card numbers.

Following the collaboration, Zapp Web, application and database servers will run on Oracle x86 and Sparc hardware, while the software that will support the mobile payment eco-system would help in building Oracle’s Database, WebLogic, Enterprise Service Bus, GoldenGate and Data Integration technologies.

Zapp CEO Peter Keenan said that ensuring secure and reliable payments for millions of UK consumers, financial institutions and retailers is the foundation of the company.

"Our strategic alliance with Oracle allows us to bring real-time payments to UK consumers through their existing bank account and their mobile phone in 2014," Keenan added.

Oracle UK country manager Dermot O Kelly said: "Zapp represents the cutting edge of mobile payments innovation and we are delighted to be a part of the co-operative effort which deploys Oracle’s hardware and software to power the Zapp technology."

As part of the deal, both the companies will create key building blocks for a high performance mobile transaction processing engine that offers advanced data analytics and strong encryption.
