West Midlands police selects Courion’s IAM suite

UK's second-largest police force deploys Access Assurance Suite offering

By CBR Staff Writer

Courion, an identity and access management (IAM) services provide, has announced that West Midlands Police has deployed its Access Assurance Suite offering.

The identity and access management (IAM) deployment will deliver an offering that will create, manage and monitor user access rights for the UK’s second largest police force.

The project marks the final phase of a five year, 13-project technology transformation as part of the Force’s groundbreaking Gateway Programme.

The availability of Courion’s Access Assurance Suite to all 15,000 West Midlands Police employees is due to be completed by the end of the year, said the company. The suite will enable comprehensive access certification and compliance management, role lifecycle management, user provisioning and password management, said the company.

Gateway at West Midlands Police Programme Manager Paul Williamson said some of the data accessed by the police force on a daily basis can be life threatening if it falls into the wrong hands, so it is critical to verify that all access is appropriate.

Williamson said, "The aim of the project is to automate what has been a bureaucratic, slow, manual access management process. What won it for Courion was the solution’s ease of implementation and simplicity, combined with the fact that it offers so much functionality behind the scenes. Many systems we looked at were also heavy in terms of support costs – something that is not the case with Courion’s Access Assurance Suite."

Courion’s Access Assurance Suite was selected from a list of 19 offerings.

Courion director of sales for EMEA Marc Lee said the Courion Access Assurance Suite ensures that the right people have the right access to the right resources, and are using them in the right way.

Lee said, "Nowhere is that access assurance more critical than when dealing with sensitive data that could potentially save lives. By overhauling and updating its IAM processes, the West Midlands Police force has made great strides to better serve and protect its community, both while in uniform and in the data center."
