Virtualisation and cloud infrastructure provider VMware has reported revenues of $1.06bn for the first quarter of 2012, up 25.1% from the corresponding quarter in the previous year.

The company has registered a growth of 41% in operating income for the first quarter ($217m) compared with the same quarter in the prior year.

VMware posted net income of $191m, or $0.44 per diluted share, in the first quarter 2012, compared to $126m, or $0.29 per diluted share, for the same quarter in 2011.

In terms of geographies, US is the leading contributor to the company’s revenues with a growth of 21% to $485m, as international revenues grew 28% to $570m in Q2 2012, compared with the same quarter in 2011.

The company also reported a 15% increase in license revenues to $482m, and 35% growth in service revenues to $573m, which include software maintenance and professional services.

VMware chief executive officer Paul Maritz said, "The quarter’s solid performance across our portfolio underscores the value that VMware is providing customers as they work to transform their IT organizations."

VMware chief financial officer Mark Peek said second quarter 2012 revenues are expected to be in the range of $1.10bn and $1.12bn.

"Annual 2012 revenues are expected to be in the range of $4.525 and $4.625 billion, an increase of 20% to 23% from 2011, and annual license revenues are expected to grow between 12% and 16%," Peek said.
