VMware and Novell have introduced SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware, which is designed to reduce IT complexity and accelerate the customer evolution to a fully virtualised datacentre.

The company said that the new offering is the first step in the companies’ expanded partnership announced in June 2010.

Novell global alliances senior vice president and general manager Joe Wagner said that this unique partnership gives VMware and Novell customers a simplified and lower-cost way to virtualise and manage their IT environments, from the data centre to fully virtualised datacentres.

"SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware is the logical choice for VMware customers deploying and managing Linux within their enterprise," Wagner said.

According to VMware, the new offering enables users to port their SUSE Linux-based workloads across clouds, and is backed with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, which provides application support among enterprise Linux operating systems.

With the new server, the company provides customers an enterprise Linux operating platform with subscription to patches and updates at no additional cost, improving their ability to complete the transformation of their data center into a private cloud.
