Verizon Wireless said some of its 4G mobile broadband customers suffered outages across the US.
On Wednesday, some 4G LTE customers have reported that their devices are operating on 3G data service where they would normally get 4G, the company said.
Verizon Wireless spokesman Thomas Pica said Verizon Wireless was working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. He stated that only 4G devices were affected and customers were still able to make calls and send text messages.
The company did not specify the nature of the problem, nor the locations and number of customers affected.
Currently, Verizon’s 4G LTE is currently available in 179 cities and 114 major airports, covering more than 186 million people in the U.S., according to the company’s website. It plans to expand its network to cover two-thirds of the US population by mid-2012 and hopes to transition its entire existing 3G footprint in the US to 4G LTE by the end of 2013.
