Verizon says it is providing a "safer, more trustworthy internet" after rolling out its cloud-based identity solution in Europe.
Verizon Universal Identity Services, which is available on the OS, Android, Windows and BlackBerry operating systems, combines a user’s password with scanning technology to confirm the identity of users.
As a result, users can securely access websites, corporate resources and medical records from their computer, smartphone or tablet.
The release comes following the Verizon 2013 Data Breach Investigations Report, which found that stolen passwords and credentials account for 76 percent of data breaches.
David Small, chief platform officer at Verizon Enterprise Solutions, said attackers are becoming more sophisticated as they continue to gain access and steal information from business and government networks.
"Verizon Universal Identity Services is transforming the business of validating online identities to provide a safer, more trustworthy Internet. Our platform will help achieve the vision of a single, trusted universal identity that individuals can use for all online activities, whether at home, at work or on the go."
The solution also comes with an updated mobile app and end-user interface that should better help organisations address security compliance.
Other features include digital signature capabilities that can be used for electronic prescriptions, online tax filing and license renewals.
