Univa delivers cloud management for Oracle E-Business Suite

To provide a platform for powering e-business web infrastructures in a virtualised environment

By CBR Staff Writer

Univa UD, a provider of cloud management software, has collaborated with Sun Microsystems to demonstrate an integrated offering for cloud-enabling Oracle E-Business Suite at Oracle OpenWorld 2009.

The company said that the new offering includes Univa’s UniCloud and Reliance products with Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Enterprise Linux and Oracle VM to provide a flexible platform for powering e-business web infrastructures in a virtualised environment.

Univa claims that it has established a dynamically scaled business compute platform that helps provide reduced administration, improved uptime and lower total cost of ownership for Oracle E-Business Suite customers. Its offering enables Oracle business applications to scale automatically across commodity computing components to maintain established service level objectives.

Jeff Doolan, director of virtualisation and Linux channels at Oracle, said: “This solution couples Oracle’s award winning applications and Oracle VM with Univa’s cloud management product set. Our customers and partners are very interested in policy-enabled management solutions that can provide enhanced flexibility to cloud-enable Oracle E-Business Suite.

“The Univa and Oracle VM solution fulfills the promise of application deployment and migration between on-premise, private cloud and public cloud.”

The company added that with Reliance service governance end-users and Service Providers can manage users, revenue models and infrastructure in new ways and can change system behavior by publishing a new policy.

Oracle E-Business Suite is an integrated business platform with customer-focused applications including Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) among others.

Jason Liu, CEO of Univa, said: “This solution ushers in a new era in business computing. Now the benefits of cloud computing are available to users of business-critical applications. The cloud-enabled Oracle solution means enterprise applications run reliably across a pool of shared internal or cloud resources, so end users can enjoy optimised performance according to established SLAs.”
