Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, one of the flagship UK NHS operations, has overhauled its IT systems using the latest platform-as-a-service technology, part of a strategy to deploy flexible platform-independent applications.

One of the NHS Foundation Trust hospitals, the Norfolk and Norwich had a legacy infrastructure where its hardware and software systems were spread over many suppliers.

When it decided to bring its IT in-house for more control, it decided on a cloud-based application platform service from Magic Software to bring together all existing applications in a way that allows them to work smoothly with newer applications through a single platform.

uniPaaS will be used to update the Trust’s current patient administration system and is claimed to be helping drive patient care efficiencies.

In future, the Trust could decide to deploy other applications on-premise and/or on-demand, as its business demands change.

The Trust which serves 822,500 people is also said to be interested in deploying Magic Software’s business integration solution known as iBOLT.

This would help it to better address its SOA requirements and integrate several different applications and internal processes to provide more effective IT system monitoring and management

Magic said that its uniPaaS application platform reduces application delivery time by allowing a single code-based application to be developed which can then be deployed in full client mode or as a web-based application, either on-premise or delivered on-demand.
