Retail sales of goods and services in the UK via mobile devices are expected to more than double by the end of 2013 to £8.17bn, an 18% increase in overall UK retail ecommerce sales, according to the latest eMarketer report.

By the end of the year, the tablet commerce will triple and reach £4.74bn, capturing 10.4% of overall UK retail ecommerce sales.

However, the research firm expects the figure to reach £18bn by 2017 and account for over a quarter of retail ecommerce sales.

Another 58% of all retail mcommerce sales will be done through tablets, compared to 40.5% on smartphones.

The report also revealed that tablet mcommerce spending would more than double than that of smartphones, and by the following two years, it will come close to three times the amount.

Overall retail ecommerce sales will grow 18% to £45.40bn this year, continuing at double-digit rates for several years in the future.
