UK Mcommerce sales rose in June

Spending via tablets comes close to that of desktops.

The mcommerce sales in the UK have risen 136% during June 2013 over corresponding period in 2013, while it rose 8% compared to May, according to a new report.

A joint report by research firm Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) and Capgemini revealed that conversion rates through mobile devices reached 2.03% during the period.

The report also revealed that the country’s Ecommerce sales rose 20% for the first time in five years, with sales surpassing 17% that the expected 12% year-on-year.

Sales of tablets are expected to surpass smartphone sales in the UK during 2013, in spite of very less tablet devices in distribution than smartphones.

The report also projects that by 2017, retail mcommerce sales would account for 69.9% of overall mcommerce sales in the UK, which is 2.4 times the £5bn anticipated to be sold through smartphones.

However, a Deloitte survey noted that UK’s young generation of tablet and smartphone users preferred using apps during shopping, while the older consumers, preferring using apps during shopping reached 14%.

According to the research firm the warm weather drove the ecommerce and mcommerce sales, with the clothing sector rising by 29%, with home and garden products rising by 35%, in addition the travel sales rose by 15%.
