UK government grants security clearance to Samsung mobile

Restrictions lifted on KNOX platform running in Android 4.3 devices.

By CBR Staff Writer

The UK government has given a stamp of approval to Samsung’s security software, allowing it to be used for official communication.

Public sector employees can now use the platform on selected ranges of smartphones and tablets.

The UK’s Communications and Electronics Security Group (CESG) assessed the security risks associated with the platform over months of testing.

The communication security body of Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) had previously identified three risks in Samsung’s KNOX.

Details are based on the End User Devices (EUD) Security Guidance for Samsung Knox. The guidance identifies best practice of Samsung KNOX running in Samsung Android 4.3 devices.

Devices covered under the guidance include Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 which are KNOX enabled.

Earlier this month, the company had unveiled KNOX 2.0, which is an end-to-end secure mobile platform claiming to protect the data and privacy of enterprise users.
