The new service sends users the most relevant tweets and stories from people they are connected to on Twitter.

"Stories feature a design similar to the recently updated Discover tab, emphasizing who shared each story beneath summaries to help you decide which ones matter most to you," said Othman Laraki, Director of Growth and International at Twitter. "Click any headline to finish reading the story, add your take by tweeting directly from the email, and see related Tweets from the people you follow."

The new feature also sends tweets that have sparked the interest of a user’s followers. This means that subscribers have the ability to see who in the network retweeted or favorited a particular tweet. Users are able to manage their preferences for the email feature in under the notification settings section.

The new email digest is no surprise as Twitter just bought the team and technology of RestEngine last week. RestEngine is an email provider that helps social companies keep subscribers engaged.

Twitter also acquired Summify in January this year. Summify is an email service which sends users top stories of the day based on social network popularity.

Twitter’s acquisition of RestEngine’s technology and Summify rose suspicion that the microblogging site was likely to start sending email digests about trending news and tweets on Twitter.

"We’re thrilled to now focus our email skills and marketing automation know-how on a much larger scale at Twitter," said RestEngine.

Twitter will be rolling out the new email over the next few weeks.
