Trend Micro has unveiled Core Protection for Virtual Machines, a new content security product to protect VMware ESX/ESXi environments.
According to Trend Micro, the new product is designed to secure VMware virtual machines, both active and inactive. The new product leverages the VMsafe APIs from VMware to offer layered protection through scanning VMs coordinated with real-time agents within the VM.
The company claims that the new product secures inactive and active virtual machines by providing scanning and pattern updates from a separate scanning virtual machine. The new product provides malware protection by ensuring that virtual machines are secure even when inactive and ready to go with the pattern updates whenever activated.
The new product reportedly simplifies management by integrating with the VMware management infrastructure, and enables enterprises to manage security within virtual environments. It is also expected to fit into a Trend Micro OfficeScan deployment, allowing central management from the same OfficeScan console.
The company said that the new product is part of Trend Micro Enterprise Security – an integrated offering of content security products and services which is supported by the Smart Protection Network. The Enterprise Security offers protection from threats while reducing the cost of security management.
The company further stated that Trend Micro Core Protection for Virtual Machines 1.0 will be available both as an individual as well as part of the OSCE X Advanced Suite in August 2009. The new product will also be available as part of a new Virtualisation Security suite that includes Deep Security. It can be deployed individually or as a plug-in to OfficeScan Client/Server and managed through the OfficeScan console.
