Transticket signs open source contract with MariaDB

Nordic ticket giant to develop open source on chips, tickets and beer.

By Joao Lima

Open source database technology company MariaDB has announced Nordic Transticket as its latest costumer.

Previously with Oracle-owned MySQL, the ticketing company, a rising rival to European Ticketmaster, reached a peak in user data with 150 Gigabytes.

With an ever growing demand for better experiences beyond the purchase of a ticket, Transticket said to be looking at new experiences including allowing customers to buy hot dogs, beers or T-shirts on their smart phones.

Transticket’s market share has soared 15% by improving costumer experience since the migration.

The enterprise targeted a provider that could deal with transactions at scale in order to replace the existing MySQL database. The decision to change its data source was taken after Transticket secured its biggest contract to date.

Founded in 2005, the ticketing platform is used by companies like ATP Tennis tour, SkyView and the Swedish Hockey league and is seeking to expand internationally.

Transticket started using Galera Cluster and MariaDB’s Remote Database Administrator to manage all e-commerce traffic and customer relationship management platform.

Data transfer from MySQL was completed in six days over two different phases. During that time, Transticket was shut down for 20 minutes.

Ulf Lundgren, CTO, Transticket said: "I felt I was in pretty good hands with MariaDB as the team lives and breathes databases. They focus on looking after the databases so I can focus on developing new customer-facing services for the company.

"Thanks to MariaDB, I now have the time to go and watch the tennis matches I love with my girlfriend because MariaDB’s Remote DBA keeps my databases purring. Whether I’m at work or away from Headquarters, MariaDB provides the assurance and protection needed for the swathes of data we have internally."

Patrik Sallner, MariaDB CEO said: "We are very happy to be working with one of the most popular event and ticketing platforms in Europe. Sports, music and art fans today tend to stick with the events which offered the best experience. This starts with how fans search and pay for the services.

"These changes have a major impact on the e-commerce industry and MariaDB is prepared to help companies which find themselves in a similar situation as Transticket."
