Dutch navigation device manufacturer TomTom has launched its navigation app for Android devices after previewing it in August this year.
TomTom’s new Navigation app for Android can be downloaded from Google Play and it will be offered in addition to TomTom’s existing navigation app for iPhone.
Designed especially for drivers, the maps have been included and stored offline, which will allow users to use high resolution maps without worrying about losing signal in the middle of their journey.
Offline loading and routing will also allow users to avoid roaming charges when travelling abroad.
The new app will be offered in the UK and Ireland at an introductory price of £30.99.
TomTom will offer the app with free quarterly map updates and the company said the users will be offered four free map updates per year for the life of the app.

The company said the new apps support smartphones operating Android 2.2 or higher, using either 800 x 480 or 854 x 480 resolutions.
According to reports, new app will not be compatible with devices including Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and HTC’s One X and new X+ and Google’s Nexus 7 tablet, and Samsung’s Galaxy Note.
Earlier TomTom had distanced itself from glitches on Apple’s new mapping service on the iPhone 5 and has offered to assist the iPhone maker in fixing the errors.
Following the launch of iPhone 5 users have complained about geographical errors and missing data on the maps feature.
