Timex has introduced its smartwatch, dubbed Ironman One GPS+, which connects to the AT&T cellular network on its own, eliminating the need to be connected to a Smartphone.
Targeting fitness buffs, the smartwatch runs on Qualcomm’s Brew platform and feature GPS location tracking which allows users to measure speed, place and distance in real time and share the information via social media platforms.
It will feature Qualcomm’s Mirasol low-power display which will allow users to view information in direct sunlight.
The waterproof watch will also enable users to play MP3s via Bluetooth and store music on its 4GB inbuilt storage, and shows emails that will come to the unique email address in the watch.
Users will not be able to send text messages, make calls or take photographs using the Ironman One, but it is connected to other online services and a "Find Me Mode" that lets users send an SOS in case of emergencies.
According to reports, Ironman One will provide a standby time up to 8 hours and can go up to 3 days if the GPS is turned off.
For now the company has not indicated any plans to build an app store dedicated to the watch, but it is planning to open up its platform for developers to develop apps for the smartwatch.
