Thales, a provider of passenger entertainment systems, and ExtendMedia, a provider of digital media content management and distribution software, have partnered to develop a platform for in-flight entertainment.
ExtendMedia said that the new centralized content management platform will eliminate traditional manual processes through a secure, automated system that reduces errors, as well as the cost and time between content procurement and delivery to the airline. The system also includes transaction support that will facilitate the processing of payment transactions via the Thales in-flight entertainment system.
ExtendMedia also said that the new platform will be based on ExtendMedia’s product, OpenCASE, a modular platform for the management, publishing, monetization and delivery of multi-screen content services to PCs, television, in-flight and mobile devices.
Stuart Dunleavy, vice president of digital media services group at Thales, said: Working with ExtendMedia will allow us to marry the ExtendMedia expertise in media management with the Thales strengths in passenger entertainment ultimately enabling us to reduce time, cost and complexity in the content value stream.
