UK supermarket chain Tesco has signed a $45m deal with CA Technologies to deploy a number of products to help it monitor its IT infrastructure.
The deal, worth about £27.5m, will see CA’s IT management software implemented across the entire Tesco Group, including Tesco Bank, Tesco DotCom and Tesco Mobile.
The products being used include CA SysView for performance management, Service Operations Insight, a product that can manage business services across on-premise and cloud environments and Process Automation, which integrates processes from different platforms, applications and IT groups, CA said.
Tesco hopes the deal will give it better insight into the running of its IT systems, including mainframes, desktop computers, servers, networks, credit card transactions, suppliers and supply orders.
The new system from CA will replace a number of different platforms from different vendors. The consolidation is aimed at helping Tesco to more easily monitor and manage its IT infrastructure, CA said, which stretches across 472,000 staff working in over 5,000 stores in 14 countries.
"Our systems infrastructure needs to work for our IT team in order to do their job for our customers, our colleagues and our suppliers," said Mike McNamara, chief information officer at Tesco.

This is not the first contract between Tesco and CA. The retailer uses CA ecoSoftware to help it track carbon emissions and monitor its global footprint across activities such as IT, stores, refrigeration, distribution, waste and sourcing.
