Teradata integrates database with Microsoft apps

Claims to increase speed, visibility and power of database platform family

By CBR Staff Writer

Teradata has expanded its partnership with Microsoft to integrate its database platforms with Microsoft applications to give users real-time access and enhanced capabilities to joint customers in every industry.

Teradata said that the interoperability with Microsoft allows its database platform family to increase speed, visibility and power to users of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Office Professional 2010, and SQL Server 2008 R2.

The tighter technology integration between Teradata and Microsoft will provide customers with streamlined access to strategic and operational intelligence, and effectively deploy pervasive business intelligence, the company said.

In addition, mutual customers can leverage SharePoint Server 2010, Office 2010 and PowerPivot with the Teradata database; direct connectivity support for SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services (SSRS); direct connectivity support for SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services (SSAS); and high-speed connectivity for SQL Server 2008 Integration Services (SSIS) via Teradata Parallel Transport API architecture.

Todd Walter, chief technology officer for research and development at Teradata, said: "The optimization of Teradata with these new Microsoft 2010 products is the latest example of good Microsoft and Teradata collaboration which brings to market business intelligence tools that enable easy and fast end-user access to enterprise data warehouse data."
