Amid all the hype surrounding the latest iPhone and Samsung Galaxy devices, Sony’s latest flagship mobile phone, Xperia Z1, is another one to watch out for.
You might not notice a huge amount of difference from its predecessor, Xperia Z, released earlier this year and hailed at the time for its waterproof features. But the Z1 is far more durable.
From £469, Xperia Z1 is dustproof, shockproof and you can now use it underwater to a depth of 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. How great is that? Now we can swim, shower or watch videos while having a bath on our smartphone (although salt water, sand, mud and liquid chemicals are best to be avoided).
The other big draw is a bigger battery and camera, which has been bumped up to a very incredible 20.7 megapixels, with a new lens, a bigger image sensor taken from Sony’s camera-making division, and a new image processing engine.
It has been complimented for its more naturalistic colours and is supposed to be a lot faster thanks to its updated processor, a Quallcomm quat core chip clocking in at 2.2 GH.
