The Financial Times (FT) has become the latest victim of cyberattack after the news agency’s website and Twitter feeds have been hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA).
Hackers posted 12 posts entitled ‘Hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army’, on the FT’s tech blog.
The Financial Times managing editor, Robert Shrimsley, said: "We have now locked those accounts and are grateful for Twitter’s help on this."
The news agency said it interviewed an individual who said he was with the group and added that they would target the media of all the countries who support terrorist groups in Syria.
"Unfortunately this is an increasingly common issue for major news organisations," Shrimsley said.
The attack follows the recent hacking of the Twitter and Facebook accounts of satirical US news website, The Onion.
SEA, which supports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has previously hacked the accounts of other media organisations that include the Associated Press, CBS News, the BBC, Reuters and The Guardian.
The SEA reportedly sent fake tweets from the AP news agency’s account saying that US president Barack Obama is injured in a bomb blast at the White House.
