Synaptics launches new series of ClearPad touch sensors

To support single-finger gestures

By CBR Staff Writer

Synaptics has expanded its portfolio of ClearPad offerings with the launch of 1000 Series capacitive touch sensor product.

Synaptics said that the 1000 Series product combines the company’s patented ClearPad sensing technology with design-in services to enable OEMs and ODMs of mobile handsets and other handheld devices to integrate capacitive touchscreens with basic gesture capability into their products.

Synaptics has also launched the 3000 Series touch sensor product to offer multi-finger gesture support. With 3000 and 1000 Series announcements, the company has expanded its touch sensor portfolio from a range of touch and gesture capabilities, from single-finger touch with simple gestures to multi-finger touch with complex gestures.

According to Synaptics, the 1000 Series product is designed for single-gesture performance and offers the manufacturing reliability OEMs demands to drive additional value in feature and mass-market touchscreen phones, and other consumer electronic devices. In addition the 1000 Series sensors can support single-finger gestures i.e. tap, double tap, tap and slide, pinch, press and flick with the company’s Enhanced Gesture Recognition (EGR) option.

Reportedly, the 1000 Series touch sensors feature an accuracy of ± 1mm in centre, 2mm on edge, are 0.300 mm thick, require no side borders, and are available in sizes up to 4.3 inches diagonally.

Tom Tiernan, president and COO of Synaptics, said: “Our ClearPad 1000 Series brings our value to the mass market, and creates the opportunity for our capacitive touch technology to reach worldwide markets through the wave of mobile expansion occurring in BRIC and other emerging regions.”
