Symantec has introduced its Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 2013 that the company said will offer small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with the choice of cloud-managed service and traditional on-premise management in a single endpoint protection product.

The new application will help organisations in protecting against viruses and malware and updating automatically to deliver critical protection for laptops, desktops, and file servers.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 2013 comes with support of Symantec Insight and Symantec Online Network for Advanced Response (SONAR) behavior-based security technologies to offer advanced virus and malware protection.

The new anti virus application also claimed to detect new threats and stops them on their tracks, keeping staff computers secure and protected even when devices are mobile.

The simplified cloud-managed service or an on-premise management application enables improved budget management with a simple subscription fee that balances operating costs and covers either management choice.

Customers that prefer to initially deploy an on-premise management server can switch to the cloud at no additional cost.

In addition, the new application is compatible with Windows 8 to protect computers running the new operating system.

The cloud-managed service allows SMBs to change security settings, set up alerts, and view reports with just a few clicks, and local security updates deliver better bandwidth optimisation.

It also includes new capabilities to detect and protect against harmful files from USB storage devices, which are commonly used to spread malware.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 2013 is supported by the Symantec Partner Management Console, which allows partners to monitor and manage their customers’ environments using cloud-managed deployments of the new application and Symantec Backup Exec.cloud through a single web-based portal.
