Symantec has introduced its new security offering, Endpoint Protection 12, which it claims will help organisations identify and combat coordinated, multi-pronged attacks on information.

The Endpoint Protection 12 offering, which is available for public beta and optimised for virtual environments, will offer organisations of all sizes the protection needed to block both known and new cyber threats, said the company.

The security offering will draw upon correlated visibility from multiple security products, combined with the company’s Global Intelligence Network, to provide actionable intelligence that reduces risks to enterprise businesses.

The company said Endpoint Protection leverages Insight, Symantec’s community and cloud-based reputation technology, to block new and unknown threats missed by other security offerings.

Further, Symantec continues to work with VMware to take advantage of virtualisation awareness and introspection capabilities based on VMware vShield technology. The company said Endpoint Protection 12 is the first step along the optimisation path for virtual and cloud environments.

Symantec enterprise security group senior vice-president Francis deSouza said with the right protection, virtual environments can be as secure, or even more secure, than traditional infrastructure as a result of increased standardisation, visibility, automation and control available in high-density environments.

"Symantec Endpoint Protection defends against all types of attacks and is optimised for performance on VMware View and VMware vSphere," deSouza said.
