Supermicro launches new low latency solution

Minimises the risk of glitches and trading errors.

By Amy-Jo Crowley

Supermicro has updated its Hyper-Speed SuperServer line solution with Ivy Bridge processors and system firmware, which promises to reduce jitter and make low-latency trading more reliable.

The Hyper-Speed 6027AX-72RF/TRF-HFT3 server is supposed to speed up trading by 15% and reduce jitter – a jumpy movement or instability in computer systems – by 94%.

Mariano Salomon, FSI business manager at Supermicro UK, said every element of performance matters in trading.

"Having the fastest technical capabilities does not automatically lead to the highest profits. It is no good having the fastest gigahertz if your competitor has a solution that delivers a more consistent overall trading experience," he explained.

"As firms continue to process increasingly large volumes of trades in smaller timeframes, the consistency of the Hyper-Speed product line ensures the fastest overall performance with maximum reliability for the most demanding trading environments."

The launch comes at a time when HFT trading is set to increase by over 20% by the end of 2013. According to TAAB, HFT now accounts for over 40% of the global currency trading.

"With HFT now powering such a large percentage of trading volume across multiple asset classes, market participants can ill-afford to ignore the importance of ensuring continuous uptime. Any drop in performance could lead to significant losses at the end of the trading day," added Salomon.
