StumbleUpon revamps its iPhone and iPad app

The company upgrades its IOS app for easy navigation and a better visual experience.

By Tineka Smith

"We’ve made it more intuitive and more about you so you can discover great images, video games, recipes and more however you want, whenever you want," said Olivia Morad, product marketing manager at StumbleUpon.

The new IOS design will focus on displaying user personal references referred to as "StumbleDNA." A person’s ‘StumbleDNA’ shows their personal references in rainbow strip display.

"Your StumbleDNA is a visual representation of who you are on StumbleUpon, with colors representing different interests that you follow," said Morad. "As you Like and Dislike things, your unique StumbleDNA changes to represent you and your evolving tastes."

Users can also view the StumbleDNA of others to discover common interests.

StumbleUpon’s home screen will show users what’s trending, as well as recommendations from connections.

The app also offers faster navigation and an easier slide experience. The company says that StumbleUpon for Android will be released in Autumn this year.

StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon was acquired by eBay in 2007 before becoming independent again in 2009. The company then grew from 5 million to over 25 million registered users.

The company experienced a plummet in traffic after its site design in December of last year.
