Infrastructure consulting service provider StratITsphere has introduced a new cloud computing service dubbed Nimbus to allow the firms to take full advantage of the growing cloud technology.

Nimbus is a managed cloud service where it all backroom functions are operated by StratITsphere’s staff. By using StratITsphere’s Alpha data centre facility, Nimbus eliminates many of the security concerns of cloud computing.

The new offering eliminates infrastructure costs, staffing requirements, long implementation times and security & availability concerns barriers by leveraging StratITsphere’s existing physical and intellectual resources, said the company.

StratITsphere president and CEO Stephen Webster said StratITsphere brings together its other well-respected services to offer customers a superior cloud computing offering without the capital expense and long lead times of trying to build this level of quality infrastructure on their own.

Webster said StratITsphere’s IT infrastructure advisors can set up virtual servers or data centres in days rather than weeks, and can scale the infrastructure up or down based upon the customer’s needs.

"By eliminating the need to buy equipment, we turn a capital expense into a variable cost and spare customers the opportunity costs of buying a fixed infrastructure," Webster noted.

StratITsphere partnered with several other companies in the IT industry to create the offering to further remove security, stability and availability concerns. Nimbus is run on CA Technologies proven cloud backbone software and housed on NetApp enterprise-class storage. Nimbus users can have secure and reliable access to enterprise data and applications through mobile devices with the help of DME (Dynamic Mobile Exchange) mobile platform, the company said.

StratITsphere vice-president and chief technology officer Sean Curry said StratITsphere’s customers need their data and systems to not only be safe but also constantly available to them.

"So to make sure we maintained those high standards, we chose the best partner we could find so we could offer the best managed cloud services we could to our customers," said Curry.
