Java application infrastructure and management firm SpringSource, a division of VMware, has acquired Rabbit Technologies, an open source software company based in the UK. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Springsource said that it add RabbitMQ open messaging system into its suite of technologies to reduce the complexity associated with development, deployment and management of enterprise applications.
Rod Johnson, general manager of the SpringSource division of VMware, said: “While messaging has always been a key infrastructure element used in the creation of enterprise applications, cloud applications require a fundamentally different messaging infrastructure.
“By adding RabbitMQ to our suite, SpringSource can extend its emerging application platform with another element of technology that is critical to modern virtual and cloud deployment models.”
SpringSource will employ the principal contributors to RabbitMQ, an open source standards-based messaging system that enables applications or components of applications to communicate with each other.
The company said that providing clear integration with the Spring Framework will allow a significant community of Spring developers to leverage RabbitMQ as they evolve their applications from traditional datacentres into private and public cloud deployments.
Upon completion of the acquisition, RabbitMQ will continue to be open source software and SpringSource said that it plans to continue full support for the RabbitMQ developer community.
