Spanish email security firm Spamina is pushing its new data loss prevention (DLP) and email encryption platform as it looks to break into the UK market.
The company announced its arrival in the UK last month and has now added DLP and encryption to its arsenal, which also includes firewall and archive products. The company will be aiming to take on the likes of Symantec, McAfee and Mimecast in these areas.
Spamina Cloud Email Encryption & DLP is available for £20 per mailbox per year, or for £35 for the triple combination of Firewall, Archive and DLP & Encryption.
The new platform is compliant with HIPAA, SOX, GLBA and PCI DSS security standards and will offer what the company claims is a full cloud-based email security and management suite. Policies can be set at the user, domain or company level.
These policies can be used to encrypt emails based on certain keywords and apply automatic data loss prevention rules. Digital signatures can also be used to verify the email sender, the company said.
Dan Power, UK country manager at Spamina, said the firm is targeting companies with 50 – 2,500 Exchange users but can use partners for lager rollouts.
The email management and security space is a pretty busy one, so Spamina is hoping that its price point will be what separates it from its competitors. "We’re cognizant of the fact that we are late to market and it’s a crowded place," Power told CBR. "If you start a company tomorrow you wouldn’t say ‘I’d like my competitors to be Symantec, Microsoft, Google’. But by their sheer size they are not as agile in how they react to requirements and they can’t be as competitive on the price front."
Spamina will be as aggressive as possible on the pricing front and hopes to win customers through the firm’s simplicity, according to Power. "Will we get 50% of the market? No, but it’s a very big market," he added.
Spamina was founded in Spain in 2005 and protects around 100 million inboxes around the world. It has a strong relationship with Telefonica and uses that for business in many Spanish speaking countries. Its UK base is in Reading and it has other offices in Spain, France, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and the US.
