China topped the list of the world’s biggest sources of spams with 11.4% points increase in the junk mail, followed by the US, whose contribution increased 0.4% points.

Kaspersky Lab senior spam analyst Tatyana Shcherbakova said that the US and China jointly produced 43% of global spam.

During the month, the US remained at first place in the rating of email antivirus detections with 13.6% rise, surpassing Italy that recorded 6.6% email antivirus detections in February.

Germany occupied the second place with 11.1% detections in March, followed by Australia with 7% detections, 1.3% points increase that shifted it from 5th to 3rd place.

During the month, the share of the phishing emails in total email traffic increased two times compared to February and averaged 0.006%, the analysts said.

"The two fold increase in the amount of phishing emails in March means users must be more watchful with their email," Shcherbakova added.

In March, the phishers’ attacks were mostly targeted towards Social networking sites, Financial and e-pay organisations, and Search engines, in first three positions respectively.
