Sourcefire, a provider of cybersecurity offerings, has launched a new 20 gigabits per second (Gbps) Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) offering.

By clustering two 10Gbps 3D9900 Sensors, the Sourcefire 3D System can support throughput up to 20Gbps, delivering protection for high-speed enterprise and data center networks. The 20Gbps IPS cluster incorporates intelligent load balancing technology within each 3D9900 Sensor, the company said.

According to Sourcefire, the new 3D9900 Sensor is optimised to support simultaneous execution of IPS, Real-time Network Awareness (RNA) and Real-time User Awareness (RUA) processes. It is available in two configurations – with four 10Gbps SR fiber ports or twelve 1Gbps copper ports and can be deployed in inline or passive mode both at the edge and the data centre.

Tom Ashoff, senior vice president of engineering at Sourcefire, said: “As organisations grow their bandwidth needs to accommodate increasing applications and users, Sourcefire is committed to delivering easy to install, cost effective and scalable solutions that help protect customers’ investments.

“With the 3D9900 cluster, we are providing customers with the ability to protect their fastest network segments with the same Sourcefire 3D System technology they trust throughout the rest of their network.”
