Sourcefire and Qualys tie up speeds threat prevention

Threats correlated against vulnerabilities before actions triggered

By CBR Staff Writer

Vulnerability software service supplier Qualys has agreed to work with intrusion-detection and prevention software developer Sourcefire Inc so that intrusion threats can quickly be correlated against known vulnerabilities.

Organisations can waste a lot of time addressing threats that actually have no impact to their networks and integration of QualysGuard with Sourcefire’s 3D System should help speed the process of determining whether a host is actually vulnerable to a given exploit, saving valuable analysis time.

The tie up means that “customers are able to gain increased insight into the relevancy of attacks, so that they can focus on those threats that matter most,” Wolfgang Kandek, CTO at Qualys explained.

The Sourcefire 3D approach to IPS refers to a process the company uses to adapt its systems to real-time threats and changes, before, during, and after cyber attacks.

It uses three protection phases of IPS, Adaptive IPS, and Enterprise Threat Management, with each phase building upon the benefits and features of the previous one.

With Sourcefire and Qualys working in tandem, the number of actionable network threats detected can be vastly reduced, the companies claimed.
