By CBR Staff Writer

Sony Ericsson had unveiled Xperia X10, its first handset built on Google’s Android operating system. It introduces a new UX platform that will evolve across the product portfolio and expand over time adding new features and capabilities.

The company said that the UX platform, which builds on top of the Open OS, combines entertainment features with signature applications, integration of social media services and a graphical user interface.

The new Xperia X10 features a wide 4-inch capacitive touch display, 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash, memory of up to 16GB, web access and Google Maps. In addition, the new handset comes with a face recognition software and also allows users to access Twitter, Facebook, e-mail and other messaging applications.

Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson, said: “The Xperia X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximises choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience. The reaction from our global operator partners to the Xperia X10 has been extremely positive and we will be rolling out across the world including Japan from the first half of 2010.”

Rikko Sakaguchi, chief creation officer of Sony Ericsson, said: “The Xperia X10 is a fantastic example because we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible and demonstrating that anything consumers can imagine, we can make possible.”

The new Xperia X10 is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2010.
