SonicWALL, a secure network infrastructure company, has released a Comprehensive Anti-Spam Service (CASS), which reportedly delivers spam protection fully integrated with its unified threat management firewalls.

The company said that the new service is designed to be enabled on SonicWALL TZ, NSA and E-Class NSA Series security appliances and will filter SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) email traffic to remove spam, phishing threats and virus-laden email.

According to SonicWALL, the CASS, by integrating directly with the firewall, scans every packet across every protocol. It allows businesses to remove junk email at the gateway before it enters the network.

The new service features Advanced Reputation Management (ARM), which utilises sender IP reputation to reject junk email, including spam, phishing and attached viruses – before it enters the network. It provides Cloud-based Advanced Content Management (ACM) to remove any remaining junk email using its spam fighting techniques.

In addition, the integrated allow and block lists are built into its network security appliances, as well as integrated reporting and logging. Its GRID anti-virus is automatically activated along with its CASS to detect SMTP-based virus emails and reroute them as defined by the administrator at the gateway, the company said.

Edward Cohen, vice president of SonicWALL’s email security business unit, said: The SonicWALL Comprehensive Anti-Spam Service enables SMBs and distributed enterprises to combat spam at the network gateway – thereby protecting the company network. Distributed enterprises receiving email in multiple locations can implement the Comprehensive Anti-Spam Service on remote SonicWALL firewalls to reduce spam-related network traffic.
