Software AG is seeking to address demand for customisable enterprise software as it presents its Digital Business Platform at the trade show CeBIT in Hannover, Germany.

The suite will target changes in business operations and market demands by attempting to enable faster development and deployment of customer-facing applications, as well as the IT infrastructure needed to support them.

Wolfram Jost, CTO of Software AG, said: "Today’s enterprises must become digital to have maximum visibility into changing market behavior, individual customer requirements, its own business operations across the entire supply chain as well as changing external parameters such as new government regulations or even weather conditions.

"The Digital Business Platform provides the foundation necessary to develop and deploy differentiating business applications, developed together with the business departments, in short and easily foreseeable release cycles. Traditional packaged applications are not designed for this type of development approach."

Software customisation is of rising interest to businesses as companies seek to move more of their operations onto computers, requiring more specific functionality for different industries and firms.

Whilst many firms are still using generic software suites, many of the larger vendors are putting more emphasis on fostering development skills within their customer base through greater emphasis on partnerships and "hackathons", in which developers compete in programming.

This has coincided a predicted boom in the Internet of Things (IoT), which will require a huge amount of software development in order to control and connect the large amount of products thought likely to be connected to the Internet in the future.

"The benefits of analysing data from the Internet of Things, from the social end of the spectrum to machine to machine communication (M2M), making in-depth business decisions based on the information provided and dynamically adapting business processes and models to react to ‘live’ events are enormous," Jost said.

"Providing a holistic approach that can manage and govern IT assets and automated business processes, on-premise and cloud integration and advanced analytics, based on an in-memory and event driven architecture, is the only way that enterprises can fully utilize digitisation."
