SoftLayer Technologies, a provider of data centre services, has unveiled Mobile Client for Android, an application that provides the functionality of SoftLayer’s Customer Portal in a native client for Android OS-based devices.
According to SoftLayer, the Mobile Client for Android provides tickets functionality that allows to create and view tickets for support questions or requests; and servers to provide details about dedicated servers, virtual servers, and CloudLayer computing instances, along with the ability to manage system startup, shutdown, pinging, and reboot.
In addition, it also provides bandwidth feature to deliver bandwidth usage information for dedicated servers, CloudLayer computing instances, and virtual racks.
Nathan Day, chief technology officer of SoftLayer, said: "SoftLayer is committed to making hosting and server management as easy and convenient as possible for our customers. So we’ve leveraged the power, security, and connectivity of the latest mobile devices to take that convenience even farther literally wherever our customers go.
"And as a native application, Mobile Client for Android truly provides robustness and a level of control that just isn’t possible with a mere mobile-web version of a management portal."
The company claimed that the Mobile Client for Android is available for free download through the Android Marketplace or at the SoftLayer website. A native Mobile Client for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad is already available, and applications for additional mobile devices will be released soon.
