Smartphone shipment during the first quarter of 2013 increased 30% compared to corresponding quarter in 2012 to about 200 million,according to a report by the Juniper Research.

Samsung accounted for about 34% of total smartphone shipments in the quarter by shipping about 68 million units, which included the Galaxy SIII and the Note II.

iPhone maker Apple sold about 37.4 million units during the quarter, a 7% rise from the 35.1 million units sold during the same period of 2012.

According to the report, Apple is expected to release its new product and suggested that it needs to innovate in order to maintain its dominance.

The analysts also suggested that Apple need to make its new products attractive in emerging market to remain brand leaders.

During the period, LG shipped 10.3 million units, a 5% up against the same period of the previous year that included sales of the Optimus G and Nexus 4.

Huawei sold about 10 million smartphones and accounted to 10% of the shipments market along with ZTE.

In the first quarter, Nokia sold 5.6 million units of Lumia, 27% up from the previous quarter, while the BlackBerry is estimated to have shipped about 6 million smartphones, which include one million units of the new BlackBerry 10 devices.

The analysts believed that BlackBerry and Nokia ecosystem will need some more time to grow and drive further competition and innovation within the smartphone and OS marketplace.
