Skype Messaging hits Windows 10 Mobile in beta

The app is presently only available to Windows 10-based phone users.

By CBR Staff Writer

Microsoft has introduced the beta version of Skype for Windows 10 mobile, which gives the application features similar to iMessage and FaceTime.

Skype Messaging is expected to replace Windows 10 Mobile’s default SMS app, with the new app allowing users to send text messages, as well as audio and video calling.

The app will also provide integrated conversation history between Skype calls and phone calls along with integrated conversation history between Skype messaging and SMS.

The move reportedly shows the new approach taken by the software maker for Skype, as it aims to make Skype the main tool of communication across all kinds of devices especially those running Windows 10.

It is not known if Microsoft will release all the beta apps to the public but presently the accompanying full Windows 10 apps are not available to download.

However, presently users must have a Microsoft account to use the latest version of the app.

Microsoft acquired Skype in 2011 for $8.5bn from eBay and since then has introduced new tools to improve the application.
