Shazam has appointed a new chief revenue officer as it seeks to drive revenue growth through advertising sales.

Former Hulu VP Kevin McGurn will be based in the media engagement company’s New York offices, and will be tasked with developing key partnerships with music labels, broadcasters and global brands to boost ads.

CEO Rich Riley said: "With more than 15 years of online media experience selling to some of the world’s most renowned brands, Kevin is a world-class professional who knows how to accelerate revenue growth, making him the perfect addition to lead our sales and business development teams.

"Our ongoing work with leading brands and agencies will be a key revenue driver, and Kevin will be instrumental to growing and scaling Shazam’s business."

McGurn said: "I am incredibly excited about my new role with Shazam. Shazam is an amazing global brand that people love to use – and love to show off to their friends – which provides an outstanding platform on which to build new partnerships and drive new revenue opportunities."

Shazam plans to double the size of its New York base and hopes to double the number of London staff in the coming months.
