SGI has released the LiveArc digital asset management software platform, a component of the company’s InfiniteStorage Total Control Suite.

The company said that the new platform allows customers to create and manage digital assets ranging from single-user environments to distributed remote collaborations. LiveArc, built on service-oriented architecture (SOA), provides a multi-versioned asset management and revision control system with workflow and web serving in a single package.

According to SGI, LiveArc acts as a common interface, bridging multiple legacy environments and overcoming incompatible data silos without the need to discard current applications or infrastructure. It is used to develop and deploy workflow-specific digital asset management services and can be deployed on laptops, desktops and enterprise-class servers in all standard operating systems and file systems.

The company claims that the new platform enables orders of magnitude better performance and requires a smaller memory and database footprint. Other benefits include near zero administration while retaining open standard data portability.

In addition, the new platform is integrated with DMF tier virtualisation application, which provides online visibility to multiple types of disk and tape-based storage in a virtualised data pool.

Giovanni Coglitore, senior vice president and chief products officer at SGI, said: “As data volumes continue to grow, so do the challenges for IT managers to cost-effectively provide higher levels of utilisation across different data types and workflows. LiveArc is specifically designed to allow for faster discovery, one-step sharing and closer collaboration, enabling more efficient data management and reduced infrastructure costs.”
